The room temperature ionic liquid trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium decanoate ([TETDP]+[decanoate]−  was synthesized,purified and kindly provided by the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, Dep. of Environmental Science, University of Venice. The ionic liquid trihexyl (tetradecyl) phosphoniumbis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([TETDP]+[imide]− ,was obtained from Merck (high purity grade≥99%) and used as supplied by the manufacturer. In the latter case, according to the commercial label, the water content was lower than 100 ppm. To avoid any further contamination with water, the RTILs were kept in a dry box until use. The vegetable oils examined in this study were a maize oil sample from an Italian commercial brand, and 15 extravirgin olive oils coming from different Italian and Spanish regions. The olive oil samples were of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and/or directly sampled in oil mills, so that geographical origin and cultivar of the olives were guaranteed. All the olive oils came from the same harvest (2006–07) and were sampled in the same period, shortly subsequent the production. Furthermore, after sampling, they were stored at room temperature under dark in amber bottles, and then processed under identical conditions. In the voltammetric experiments, when necessary, pure nitrogen (99.99%) supplied by SIAD (Bergamo, Italy) was used to remove oxygen from the test solutions. |
