PH.D. IN MIXED MATRIX MEMBRANES

Within the Membrane Science & Technology group (www.membrane.nl) and the Soft Matter and Microfluidics group (www.utwente.nl/tnw/sfi/) we have a vacancy for a Ph.D. position on:
‘Mixed matrix membranes’
For sustainability reasons, traditional filter aids are used less and membranes are used more and more as an alternative. Even though membrane processing already introduced an improvement over the traditional filter aids, some disadvantages still occur. During processing of feedstocks for the food industry, for instance, the ingredients may denaturate due to oxygen. This, together with the influence of light, temperature, presence of iron and other effects can influence the taste and the final properties of the product.
In this project, Mixed Matrix Membranes will be prepared and used to remove contaminants/undesired molecules in beverage production, achieving then a more sustainable process by preserving the functionality of the products, increasing the production yield and reducing the cleaning steps.
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers with an MSc degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or a related topic, with adequate experimental and theoretical skills.
We prefer candidates with a good team spirit, who like to work in an internationally oriented environment. Fluency in English is a requirement. An interview and a scientific presentation will be part of the selection procedure.
