Applications are invited for a Leverhulme Trust funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Bioengineering and the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London.  The postholder will work with Dr Sylvain Ladame and in collaboration with Dr Liming Ying on the development of fluorogenic probes for sensing DNA and RNA quadruplex formation both in vitro and in vivo using single molecule fluorescence microscopy.

This project addresses the fundamental question of the existence of unique DNA and RNA quadruplexes in vivo notably by investigating the duplex/quadruplex equilibrium in gene promoters within the context of a cell. The successful candidate will synthesise fluorogenic probes based on a Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) scaffold that will serve as tools for sensing the formation of individual DNA and RNA G-quadruplex structures both in vitro and in human cells using single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy.

Applicants must have a PhD in Bioorganic or Biophysical Chemistry. Experience in synthetic organic chemistry is highly desirable as well as a strong background in fluorescence spectroscopy.
