in francis scott key fitzgerald's fiction "the great gatsby", there has a sentence in chapter one:
he didn't say any more,but we've always been unusually communicative in a reserved way,and i understood that he meant a great deal more than that.
i have noticed that there have two distinct translation:
第一種是方振宇的“他沒再說什么，我們父子間雖話不多，卻心意相通，所以我能明白他的言外之意�！�
另一種是：他并沒有說很多,但我們在緘默中通常能理解到他想說的,同時我明白他所指的遠(yuǎn)比我們理解的要多。
我的疑問是：蓋茨比到底能明白他的父親（明白言外之意，第一種翻譯），還是他只能明白一部分（父親的意思遠(yuǎn)比我理解的要多，而我只能理解一部分，第二種翻譯）？

在我看來，這兩種翻譯的意思相差較大. 焦點我看來主要是對more than that的理解，that到底是指“that i understand”（即我能理解的，針對第二種翻譯），還是指his father had say(他父親說過的)，如果是這個，那么第一種翻譯更準(zhǔn)確。 返回小木蟲查看更多
