Fully funded Postdoctoral Fellowship (2 years)

Topic: Imaging Mesoscopic Heat Transport with Nanoscale Quantum Thermometers and Ultrafast Spectroscopy

In mesoscopic crystalline devices and materials of reduced dimensionality, heat may stop diffusing according to Fourier law, but instead flow like a viscous fluid (hydrodynamic regime).
This new regime is of high relevance for understanding and managing heat flow in nanostructures and quantum devices.
The Laboratory of Quantum and Nano-Optics at EPFL is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with a background in nanophotonics, quantum sensing or ultrafast spectroscopy, to lead a new project aimed at imaging unconventional heat flow in the hydrodynamic regime through mesoscopic diamond devices and low-dimensional materials (in particular 2D materials).

Essential Skills:
• Proven academic achievements and Ph.D. thesis in relevant field
• Excellent understanding of photonics, quantum sensing, spin physics, and heat transport
• Ability to interact with the team, supervise students, and write scientific papers
• Excellent communication skills and professional proficiency in English

Valuable additional expertise:
• Surface or material science
• Micro/nano-fabrication
• Pump-probe spectroscopy

Start date: no later than May 1st, 2021
