The laboratory of Assistant Professor LIN Zhewang at the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking creative and highly motivated postdoctoral fellows and graduate students with backgrounds in chemical biology or cell biology to join us.
Our group integrates chemical, biochemical and cell biology approaches to discover and understand novel co-translational pathways that determine the fate of newly synthesized proteins and the associated mRNAs. Such co-translational molecular network is an emerging and under-examined area of research in a wide range of diseases, including infectious diseases, neurodegenerative disorders and cancers. We aim to capture, identify and characterize the co-translational factors directly involved in these disease processes. These interactions are challenging to study due to the dynamic and transient nature of these co-translational events. We recently developed a site-specific photo-crosslinking strategy, which allows us to capture and identify the cellular factor that mediates the specific co-translational degradation of tubulin mRNA during tubulin autoregulation (Lin et. al. Science 2020, see BioArt article: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/kg-FWfht6Dv1KzBlLyWxiw). This novel approach not only solves the long-standing question of how tubulin autoregulation is controlled at the molecular level, but also serves as a blueprint for the identification of other co-translationally acting factors.
Our research is generously funded by the NUS Presidential Young Professorship (PYP) start-up grant. Compensation and benefits package for postdoctoral fellow will be internationally competitive, including annual base salary, performance-based bonus, medical insurance and vacation leave.
Qualifications for postdoctoral positions:
• Ph.D. in chemical biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related fields.
• At least one first author paper in international peer reviewed journal.
• Excellent skills in cell culture and molecular biology.
• Knowledge and skills in proteomics will be preferred.
Interested postdoc candidates are encouraged to email a copy of CV (with a list of publications), a cover letter stating research accomplishment and interests, as well as contact information of two references to Dr. LIN Zhewang at zlin@nus.edu.sg.
