群體微生物信號實驗室由國際群體感應(yīng)權(quán)威張煉輝教授創(chuàng)建。張煉輝教授是“973”首席科學(xué)家、國務(wù)院學(xué)位委員會第七屆學(xué)科評議組成員、廣東省領(lǐng)軍人才、廣東省微生物信號與作物病害防控重點實驗室主任。主要研究集中在：①病原微生物群體感應(yīng)信號的分離與鑒定；②病原微生物的通訊原理；③群體淬滅機理與應(yīng)用；④群體感應(yīng)信號抑制劑的設(shè)計與合成等。
團隊包括教授6人，其中美國科學(xué)院院士2人（兼職，廣東省創(chuàng)新團隊首席科學(xué)家，華盛頓大學(xué)everett peter greenberg院士和caroline stone harwood院士），副教授3人，講師2人。涉及研究方向包括植物病理學(xué)、有機化學(xué)、天然產(chǎn)物化學(xué)、分子生物學(xué)、微生物學(xué)、生物化學(xué)等。課題組現(xiàn)有博士后2人、博士研究生14人、碩士研究生30人。本課題組科研條件優(yōu)越，擁有微生物和植物病理學(xué)、有機合成和天然產(chǎn)物化學(xué)等實驗室，占地約1000平方米。
張煉輝教授在微生物群體感研究方面發(fā)表sci論文百余篇，其中，nature 2篇（1篇為第一作者，1篇為通訊作者），nature biotechnology （第一作者）及nature chemical biology （通訊作者）各一篇，chemical reviews 1篇，pnas 7篇。
