Four special FBG based sensors were developed to monitor an artificial landslide, which is located in Nanjing, China. Based on the strength of the rod sensor, two sensors were named as “hard sensors” (No.1 and No.2), the other two were named as “soft sensors” (No.3 and No.4). For Two FBG were fixed on a rod for each sensor, one is 50 centimeters from the top of rod (upper FBG), and another is 100 centimeters from the top of rod (lower FBG). In the experiment of this paper, four special sensors were installed in the slope of artificial landslide, which was made by machine and manual excavation. A sensing system including four special sensors, optical fiber, static fiber grating demodulation instrument (SM125), PC and related software were integrated in fiber sensing system. And a large number of strain data can be collected by using this system during artificial landslide experiment in this study. The results of this research show that the lower FBGs are more sensitive than the upper FBGs among the four sensors. The Sensor No.2 and No.4 are more capable of monitoring small-scale landslide than Sensor No.1 and No.3. Due to the difference in strength, hard sensors are more adaptable to coarse environment for big landslide. Thus, hard sensors should be installed near the landslide are while in a distance to landslide body for soft sensors.
