Conventionally, there are two kinds of mechanisms to explain grain rotation: one is the decrease in grain boundary free energy, the other is the coupled motion associated with grain boundary migration. The former often gives rise to grain coalescence and grain growth stagnation usually accompanied by the formation of coincidence site lattices.
