PhD Student Position available at Gyeongsang National University, Korea Institute: Rheology and Materials Processing Lab., School of Mechanical Engineering, Gyeongsang National University, KOREA Location: Jinju, KOREA Contact: Prof. Wook Ryol Hwang (E-mail: wrhwang@gnu.ac.kr; URL: https://rmp.gnu.ac.kr) Job Description: Rheology and Materials Processing Lab. invites the application for a few Ph.D student positions on (1) constitutive modeling of fiber suspensions, (2) direct numerical simulations of nanoparticle suspensions, (3) Hydrodynamic erosion in porous media. We have well-developed computational environment for those subjects (e.g. 2D/3D DNS fiber suspension solvers, macroscopic flow simulation solver with fiber suspensions) and his/her job is to combine existing computational tools to explore microscopic phenomena and stress behaviors and thereby to predict macroscopic complex flows. The first subject on orientation prediction in fiber suspension is a classic and noble subject in rheology and at the same time is very important in industries: almost all high performance injection-molded parts are manufactured with the presence of short fibers and the prediction of fiber orientation and the stress are essential in successful understanding of the process. The second subject is another classic problem with novelty. Recently we have developed a new computational method for Brownian particle suspensions using DNS with fluctuation hydrodynamics, which I believe is the first computational method in the world that accounts both the Brownian thermal fluctuation and hydrodynamic interactions. We will study in this direction dynamics of non-spherical particle suspensions, nano particles in polymeric flows, etc. The third subject is the investigation of internal erosion in porous media such as embankment dams. In addition to the subjects described above, PhD students are supposed to be involved with one project which is closely related with industries. Applicants should have M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related fields. There are two requirements: full of curiosity, and solid mathematical background Conditions: The salary is around 1,200,000~1,400,000 KRW per month. |
