One Ph.D student position with full scholarship in the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) http://www.deakin.edu.au/iisri is available for application. Please note that this position is full-time, 3-year long, and research only. The campus is in Waurn Ponds, Geelong (second largest city in Victoria), one hour drive/train from Melbourne. General scholarship terms: $26,682 per annum, tax free. Research areas: Computer Graphics/HCI/Haptics and interaction/UAV and Computer Vision. More details could be discussed and customised to applicant's background. Requirement: 1. You are good at using English as your primary communication tool for academic-related matters. One or multiple Skype interview sessions will be conducted during your application procedure. 2. You are good at programming using C++ / C# 3. You are an organized and determined person. Any enquires please send e-mail to lei.wei@deakin.edu.au Good luck all. --------------------------------------------------------- About your prospective Ph.D supervisor Dr. Lei Wei: Between 2006 and 2010, Dr. Wei worked on his Ph.D. in Computer Science in Fraunhofer IDM@NTU, a joint research centre between Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He spent one more year in NTU as a Research Associate, before he received his Ph.D in 2011. He then joined the largest haptic research group in the Southern Hemisphere -- Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) as a Research Fellow, continuing his research on haptics, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Computer Vision. In December 2015, to recognise his top performance in IISRI, he was promoted to a Senior Research Fellow, achieving 6 academic steps within 4 years. Dr. Wei's research started from VR-based visualisation with haptic interaction, and it gradually extended into the proposal of a unified F-Rep representation for visuo-haptic rendering with various graphical and physical properties. This representation were then applied to networked haptics and tele-operation where compactness and accuracy of the transmitted data are highly desirable. After his Ph.D, Dr. Wei continued to extend his research scope both deeper and broader. On the depth side, he explored more into the research of multimodal haptic collision detection and interaction in complex virtual reality scenarios for immersive healthcare and industrial simulation; while on the breadth side, he explored more into interdisciplinary haptic research, combining haptics with physics engine, robotics, motion capture and computer vision for practical VR/AR-based simulation applications. He is a Unity Certified Developer with one of the highest passing scores (94.94%). Since 2007, Dr. Wei has published 15 journal papers and 21 conference papers, many of which were published on top venues, such as The Visual Computer (Springer), Transaction on Image Processing (IEEE), Transaction on Intelligent Transportation Systems (IEEE), Pattern Recognition (Elsevier), etc. |
