The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) invites applications from PhD candidates in the general area of signal processing for wireless communications. SnT is carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. The Centre is rapidly expanding its research activities and is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates who wish to pursue research in 5G networks and beyond. PhD Position in Resource Optimization and Interference Management in 5G-Satellite Networks Ref: R-STR-5010-00-B Fixed Term Contract up to 3 years in total, pending satisfaction of progress milestones (CDD) Full time basis (40hrs/week) Number of positions: 1 Employee and student status Your Role The successful candidates will join an internationally leading and motivated research team lead by Prof. Björn Ottersten (IEEE Fellow) and Dr. Symeon Chatzinotas in order to carry out research in order to pursue a PhD on the following topics: 5G new radio access techniques for satellite-terrestrial communications Modeling and algorithm development for satellite-5G network performance optimization Advanced transmission/reception design for interference mitigation Signal processing, beamforming, precoding, and scheduling techniques Radio resource management and optimization The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks: Carrying out research in the predefined areas Disseminating results through scientific publications Participating in drafting project deliverables Presenting the results in the well-known international conferences and workshops For further information, please contact us at lei.lei@uni.lu or Symeon.Chatzinotas@uni.lu. Your Profile MSc degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics. Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and experience in a number of the following topics: Signal processing for wireless communications (detection and estimation theory, beamforming and precoding techniques) Cross-layer design and radio resource optimization in 4G/5G/satellite networks Applications of machine/deep learning in physical/network layer communications and be familiar with the principles of Linear algebra and matrix analysis Optimization theory (convex/non-convex, combinatorial, linear/non-linear optimization) Machine/deep learning Statistical signal processing Programming skills: Familiar with optimization solvers e.g., CVX, Gurobi, or CPLEX, and strong programming skills in one of the programming languages MATLAB, Python, or C++. Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
