Two Ph.D. positions supported by graduate research assistantship are immediately available in the Mechanics, Materials, and Advanced Manufacturing (M3) Laboratory led by Dr. Xueju “Sophie” Wang in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU). Interested areas are: (1) Mechanics of deformation and fracture in advanced materials such as high-performance battery materials; (2) Design and manufacturing of 3D flexible, stretchable architectures and electronics; and (3) Soft materials and systems. Candidates with background in Solid Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry are strongly encouraged to contact me. Applicants with a master degree are preferred but not required. If you are interested in working in the M3 lab, please feel free to send your CV to Dr. Wang at wangxueju@missouri.edu About the research group: The mission of the M3 lab at MU is to address grand challenges in the global distribution of energy and human health by conducting fundamental mechanics, materials and structures research. More specifically, the lab will focus on the following three areas: (1) Mechanics and materials for next-generation, high-performance batteries; (2) Design and manufacturing of 3D flexible, stretchable architectures and electronics; and (3) Soft materials and systems. Our research is highly multidisciplinary and lies at the intersection of mechanics, materials, electronics and chemistry. Students who have background and are interested in any of those related areas are welcome. The M3 lab is led by Dr. Wang, an Assistant Professor in MAE at Mizzou. Prior to joining Mizzou, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Center for Bio-Integrated Electronics at Northwestern University. She obtained her Master and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016, and her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Dalian University of Technology in 2011. Dr. Wang’s work has been published in high-profile journals such as Nature Communications and Nano Letters, and has been reported by many press releases including ScienceDaily, Science360, Phys.org, R&D Magazine, and Nanotechnology Now. In addition, she is the recipient of Gary Cloud Scholarship from the Society for Experimental Mechanics. Please refer to our website https://www.wangresearchlab.com/ for more information.
