PhD openings with full financial support: Iowa State University, spring and fall 2021 Job Type: Graduate Job Rank: PhD student Job Institution: Iowa State University Job Description: Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Processing Laboratory in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the Iowa State University has two PhD openings starting spring or fall 2021 for students with background in materials science, advanced manufacturing, mechanical engineering, applied physics, and related area. The students will conduct research in the following areas: 1. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) 2. Laser shock processing 3. Nano/micro-manufacturing of smart materials for soft robotics applications. 4. Advanced materials processing towards applications in supercapacitors and batteries. 5. Manufacturing process simulation and multiscale materials modeling. Iowa State University is classified as a Carnegie Foundation Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), and ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top public universities in the nation. More than 36,000 students are enrolled and are served by over 6,200 faculty and staff. The College of Engineering has consistently been ranked among the top engineering schools and is the 7th largest engineering school in the United States. According to US News, the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering department is ranked 24th in the country in 2020. Requirements: 1. BS/MS degree in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, or a closely related field. 2. MS is preferred. 3. Journal publication experience is preferred. As a guideline for prospective students, typical GRE scores for new students are 155 on quantitative, 145 on verbal, and 3 on analytical. Required minimum scores for TOEFEL is 80 and for IELTS is 6.5 The Graduate College expects a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale from an applicant’s undergraduate degree program, but we view applications holistically, and other qualifications may support admission. |
