英國 Queen Mary University of London化學(xué)院Dr. Matteo Palma課題組招聘國家公派留學(xué)(CSC)博士生 Dr. Matteo Palma課題組主頁:https://research.sbcs.qmul.ac.uk/m.palma Project 1: PhD studentship: “DNA Origami Nanoarrays for biosensors and/or cell adhesion and signalling at the single-molecule level” Applications are invited for a Queen Mary - China Scholarship Council (CSC) joint PhD scholarship starting in September/October 2021 to work in the lab of Dr. Matteo Palma in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry of the School of Biological & Chemical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London. (The deadline for applications is: 15th of January 2021: later applications might still be considered but will depend on availability) Many fundamental processes in living systems require probing dynamics at the single-molecule level including folding, assembly, and function of proteins and other cellular machines. There is therefore a need for low-cost platforms to study biological interactions in parallel, at the nanoscale and with single-molecule resolution. DNA is a natural nanoscale material that self-assembles according to extremely precise base-pairing rules. This ability, coupled with DNA’s structural features, has been exploited to create DNA nanostructures (DNA origami)[1,2] for a variety of different applications in nanoscience and nanotechnology, including biological investigations also by our laboratory. [3,4] In this project, we will employ strategies for the fabrication of biomimetic nanoarrays that permit the investigation of multivalent ligand− receptor molecule interactions in biosensors and/or for cell spreading with nanoscale spatial resolution and single-molecule control. In particular we will investigate sensing of biomarkers, and/or the use of biomimetic substrates in cancer cell spreading and adhesion, as well as muscle cells during early atherosclerosis. The PhD student will be supervised by Dr Palma and his team (https://research.sbcs.qmul.ac.uk/m.palma), and will have access to state of a state of art scanning probe microscopy system, nanofabrication facilities and wet (bio)chemistry and physics laboratories. The student will have the opportunity to participate to national and international conferences during the duration of the PhD and will develop not only scientific laboratory skills but also “soft” skills such as scientific writing, oral presentation etc. Applications are invited from Chinese Citizens with a BSc and a Master’s degree in biology, biomedicine, bioengineering, chemistry, materials science, physics (or similar) from a top university anywhere in the world (China, USA, UK etc). Our functional materials will be designed to be both static and dynamic (i.e. stimuli-responsive) [3,4,5] in order to explore their use as solution processable systems for the fabrication of tunable nanoscale devices.
