The ability of these hairpin "slipouts" to migrate has implications for their reactivity and repair, and may be connected with the switch from healthy behavior to disease. The PhD project will investigate the role of repeat sequence and length on DNA dynamics and would test the ability of small molecules, as potential drug candidates, to alter these dynamics. It would also look at interactions of DNA with DNA repair proteins, which are implicated in the expansion process. The University of Glasgow will waive the international fees of successful Chinese applicants, and will support their personal applications for CSC Scholarships.
