candidate students with ai, computer science or applied mathematics backgrounds are especially welcomed target qualification: phd location: glasgow, scotland, united kingdom funding for: uk students, eu students, or international students funding amount: full tuition fee waiver for four years plus an annual stipend of ￡20,000+ including internship payment (funded by mathworks) mode of study: full time anticipated starting time: 1st october 2023 or earlier (negotiable) application deadline: 31st january 2023 principal supervisor: dr. bo liu applications are invited for a four-year fully funded phd research studentship in engineering optimization, james watt school of engineering, university of glasgow, scotland, uk. university of glasgow is an internationally top 100 university (#81 in qs world university rankings 2023). the program is funded by one of the leading cad companies, the mathworks inc. (the creator of matlab and simulink). the phd student will focus on research into surrogate model-assisted optimization techniques and corresponding cad tool development: the final product will be available as part of the global matlab distribution and hence will have very wide international visibility. involvement with this work is expected to generate an impressive track record for the phd student’s future career, either from industry or academic point of view. the studentship is expected to be available from 1st october 2023 or earlier (negotiable). applicants should hold at least a first or upper-second class honors degree (or the equivalent, e.g. gpa greater than 3.3) in computer science, mathematics, or engineering. competence in evolutionary computation, conventional optimization, mathematics and machine learning (at least one of these) is essential and evidence of extensive experience in programming is required. experience with matlab is highly desirable. inquiries to: dr. bo liu james watt school of engineering, university of glasgow, scotland telephone: +44 (0) 141 330 2000 e-mail: bo.liu@glasgow.ac.uk https://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/engineering/staff/boliu/ informal enquires are very welcome and should be made to dr. bo liu via email. please submit a full cv together with a cover letter describing how you meet the requirements. |
