澳大利亞莫納什大學(xué) — 英國紐卡斯?fàn)柎髮W(xué)聯(lián)合博士項(xiàng)目招收1名2024年入學(xué)微生物及藥理學(xué)專業(yè)全獎(jiǎng)博士生 （獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金為每年三萬五澳元，約16.7萬人民幣） Monash University and Newcastle University (UK) Joint PhD Project Project description: Our project addresses the urgent issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) which poses a significant threat to global public health. This threat was highlighted in 2017 when the WHO released its first-ever priority pathogen list of notorious antibiotic-resistant bacteria, designating Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a ‘Critical’ pathogen. In this PhD project, we aim to establish in vitro host-pathogen-antibiotic tripartite models (e.g., the 3D organotypic model of the human airway) to investigate antibiotic-induced metabolic perturbations in the host microenvironment during P. aeruginosa infection. Notably, essential metabolite biomarkers that modulate antibiotic efficacy will be identified, with the aim of enhancing the treatment effectiveness against P. aeruginosa. This research will provide novel mechanistic insights to optimise antibiotic use in clinical settings and combat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. This is a joint PhD project between Monash and Newcastle Universities, supervised by a multidisciplinary research team. The project will employ cutting-edge technologies such as quantitative metabolomics and MALDI-MS imaging to elucidate the complex metabolic interplay between bacteria and the host microenvironment in 3D organotypic infection models. The candidate will conduct experiments and gain expertise in the co-supervisors' respective areas in their well-equipped laboratories at Monash and Newcastle Universities.
