As a recipient of the National Youth Outstanding Science Foundation and a leader of the National Ten Thousand Innovative Talents Programme, Professor Zhou has outstanding achievements and profound influence in the academic field. The team has been focusing on the basic theory and applied research on soil microbial electrochemistry and resource utilisation of organic solid waste, and has achieved fruitful scientific research results. Up to now, the team has presided over 10 National Natural Science Foundation of China (covering Jieqing, Youqing, major research programmes, key, top and youth projects of the Joint Fund), and has undertaken more than 30 important research projects, such as the National 863, the National Science and Technology Support Programme, and the National Key Research and Development Programme. In terms of academic publications, the team has published more than 200 sci papers as the first or corresponding authors, with more than 15,000 sci citations and a personal h index as high as 75. Since 2021, the team has been consecutively selected in the list of "esi China Highly Cited Scholars", which fully demonstrates the team's popularity and academic contribution in the international academic community. The team's reputation and academic contributions are well known in the international academic community.
