| The scanning probe microscope have brought human beings into the atomic world, which made people not only observe the arrangement of atoms on the surface of material, but also realize the manipulation of the atom in accordance with of human beings’ wishes. This paper reviews the history of scanning probe microscopy as well as introduces the basic principles and the latest applications of it, mainly focusing on the morphology, characterization, and nano-fabrication and presenting direction of current research on scanning probe microscopy. |

| The scanning probe microscope, which shows the world of atoms to human, makes the arrangement of atoms on matter’s surface become visible and makes the artificial operation of atoms come true.This article reviewed the history of scanning probe microscope, introduced its working mechanism and current situation of usage especially the usage for microcosmic shape, matter features and nano process, then the current researching targets of scanning probe microscope. |

This paper reviews the history of SPM, introduces the basic principles and the latest applications, mainly focusing on the morphology, characterization, and nano-fabrication and presenting current research direction on SPM. |
