A effective way was used widely in industry to get the fine microstructure is realized by dispersing the second-phase particles in the matrix. The second-phase particles act as obstacles to the motion of grain boundaries and thus retard grain growth. The most effective way to enhance the strength and toughness of metallic materials is refining grain, and in industry the widely applied way to refining grain is to refine the microstruture of matrix with dispersing the second-phase. Because of the pinning effect of grain boundaries, the second-phase particles have important effect on the growth of grain in single-phase polycrystalline materials by restraining the motion of grain boundaries to stop grain growing and to reach the limited size of grains. Nowadays refinement of matrix structure by dispersing second-phase particles has been widely used in industry. The second-phase particles can pin grain boundary and have great impact on grain growth. Through constraining the mobility of grain boundary, it can finally make grain stop growing and achieve extreme dimension. |
