Dear Dr. **** As a follow-up to your application, I am pleased to offer you a postdoctoral position in my research group in joint collaboration with the group of Professor **at the Université ***. This offer consists of a oneyear fellowship of $**(CDN) with a possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. If you accept it, you may start working next year as soon as you are free of your commitments with your current employer. I only ask that you please give me a few months notice so that I can rearrange the working space available accordingly and that you have time to start visa procedures. The project associated with this offer is supported by a team grant between Professor ** and myself and deals with the design of *****. The size of my research group has grown to about 25 researchers (graduate students and postdoctoral fellows), and I am convinced that it is a stimulating environment that you will greatly enjoy. The group instrumentation is first class and includes a GC, LC, SFC, react IR, LC/MS, Prep HPLC, microwave, polarimeter, glove-box, etc. The facilities at the Université ***are also outstanding for the advancement of research with 11 NMR spectrometers (3 x 300, 2 x 400 and 2 x 600 MHz), 4 X-Ray diffractometers, 6 in-house mass spectrometers, 2 elemental analyzers, and much more. In addition, I should point out that the *** division at the Université **** is one of the largest and strongest in Canada and that our Department of Chemistry runs a seminar program and hosts a series of prestigious lectures throughout the year. On the other hand, my expectations from a postdoctoral colleague are very great indeed. It goes without saying that I expect a high order of laboratory presence and intellectual involvement in research. I expect professionalism in all matters related to record keeping and registry of spectra. I also expect a great deal of independence and initiative on the part of the fellow. I would appreciate it if you could inform me as soon as possible of your intention regarding this offer.
