【Share】No More Goals! I'm Working Hard Enough...

Carl Streed Jr, Medical Student, 02:03PM Jan 1, 2011 I think in terms of the day's resolutions, not the year's. -- Henry Moore Every New Year I think about what I've managed to survive in the past year (eg another year of medical school) and plan for the road ahead. Traditionally, I would write some resolutions and goals in a journal, seal the pages, and open them again the following New Year. However, I think I'll do something diffferent this year. 1. I'm not going to resolve to do anything. 2. I'm not going to set new goals. 3. I'm not going to resolve to change. I feel I've got enough to work on at the moment to be a better and happier person that one more resolution, one more goal, isn't really gonna make a difference. I feel quite pleased with all I've accomplished at this point in my life and am quite confident that the projects (personal and professional) that I still need to complete will provide me with ample opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow. No need to pile on more at this point. And as medical students, I think it's important to remember that we've got to where we are now because constantly striving for more. I think it's important to take a moment (maybe a year?) to think about all we've gotten done and to focus on what remains to be finished. Let's not overload on new goals without finishing the old ones. Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2010 was kind to you and that 2011 is a year in which we all continue to grow stronger and wiser. |
