【Share】Chinese crazy on Spring Festival shopping
The 2011 Spring Festival will arrive in less than 5 days. Shopping is one of the highlights of the most important Chinese holiday. Eager consumers pack into malls and super markets looking to buy up whatever tickles their wallets. With the Year of the Rabbit just a few short ticks of the clock away, nature's bouncy bringers of good luck are a hot commodity throughout the world's Chinese community. Traditions like placing poetic saying around a home's entrance are popular. Cardboard cutouts of the yearly zodiac animal are also common. But this year, an actual animal is coming home for the holidays. Yang Jun, Rabbit Store Customer, said, "I have a child who especially likes rabbits. I have decided to raise one so my child can learn how to take care of something and also have something to play with. " But, it's not just regular shoppers. Chinese investors in Beijing were also out in droves, eager to get a piece of some gold rabbit action. Gold in China is seen as a symbol of good luck, and a perennially safe investment option. A golden rabbit is the embodiment of both these things. Ms. Han, gold shop customer, said, "Actually, it's not just for my company, there are a lot of people in my family who were born in the year of the rabbit. I hope during this year they will have a lot of luck. " Traditionally, Chinese New Year is a time to loosen the purse strings. So, it's not just a chance for families to re-unite, but for business to cash in. [ Last edited by leiking on 2011-1-27 at 09:47 ] |
