Xu et al. recently reported the preparation of a
visible-light active TiO2/ZnFe2O4 photocatalyst via conventional
liquid-phase transformation using the sol-gel method.26
The formation of highly dispersed zinc ferrite nanoparticles (less
than 5 nm in size, with imperfect crystallization) on the TiO2
material prevented the formation of the rutile phase to some
extent. The advantage of this material was the coupling of the
relatively narrow band gap for ZnFe2O4 (light absorbing semiconductor)
and the wide band gap of titania, which resulted in a
semiconductor system with an enhanced primary charge separation
and photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation.
