While the examples so far all involve LSPR-based sensing of molecules, other changes can also be detected via LSPR techniques. Recently, the structural changes of a nanoparticle, typically associated with aging and minimization of its surface energy, have been used to develop a novel class of colorimetric indicators
for time and the average temperature over extended time frames.For example, the sharp corners of triangular Ag nanoplates in solution will round and become truncated over time, resulting in a large shift in the LSPR. This rounding process
was found to be sensitive to temperature. At higher temperatures, the rounding process proceeded faster. These variables (time and temperature) could be calibrated to the LSPR shift of the Ag nanoplates. The color change that accompanies this rounding can be seen with the naked eye, making this new system well suited as time and temperature indicators. When placed on the outside of a product’s packing, the time and temperature information about the product can be easily determined.

盡管目前所有的例子都是關(guān)于基于LSPR技術(shù)的分子感應(yīng)的，但利用該技術(shù)也能檢測(cè)其它的變化。最近納米粒子的結(jié)構(gòu)變化，較為典型的是與老化及表面能態(tài)變小相關(guān)的，已經(jīng)被用來(lái)開(kāi)發(fā)出新型色標(biāo)作為時(shí)間和某段時(shí)間內(nèi)平均溫度的指示。例如，溶液中三角形銀納米板的尖角，長(zhǎng)時(shí)間將會(huì)倒圓并且表面會(huì)剝蝕，造成在LSPR上的較大偏移。發(fā)現(xiàn)該倒圓過(guò)程對(duì)溫度敏感，溫度越高則倒圓過(guò)程進(jìn)行的越快，這些變化（時(shí)間和溫度）可以標(biāo)定到銀納米板的LSPR偏移上。用裸眼即可觀察到伴隨著倒圓過(guò)程的顏色變化，使之非常適合用作時(shí)間和溫度的指示。當(dāng)其放到產(chǎn)品的外包裝上時(shí)，關(guān)于產(chǎn)品的時(shí)間和溫度信息就很容易確定了。
