International Conference on Quantum Foundation and Technology: Frontier and Future (ICQFT'2012) https://quantum.ustc.edu.cn/conference/ August 26-30, 2012, Dunhuang Hotel, Dunhuang, Gansu, China Organized by The Quantum Physics and Quantum Information Division, Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale, University of Science and Technology of China Organization Committee Supported by The Chinese Academy of Sciences The National Natural Science Foundation of China University of Science and Technology of China Synopsis The past two decades have witnessed the emergence and explosive development of quantum information science and technology (QIST), which requires concerted efforts from a wide variety of different disciplines including quantum physics, mathematics, computer science, information science, chemistry, material science, and engineering. The ultimate aim of QIST is to understand how fundamental principles of quantum physics, such as quantum superposition, quantum entanglement, non-locality, no-cloning theorem, no-signaling constraint, and so on, can be harnessed to perform important tasks that are classically formidable or impossible, e.g., to dramatically improve our ability to generate, store, process, transmit and acquire information. The flourishing of QIST will also provide more and more new insights into and substantial impacts on fundamental issues regarding quantum theory in particular and physics in general, say, a thorough understanding of quantum entanglement and the non-local properties of quantum systems. Although a great number of brilliant results have been obtained in the last few years, there still remain many open questions and mysteries, theoretical or experimental, which persist in challenging our understanding and imagination. The International Conference on Quantum Foundation and Technology: Frontier and Future (ICQFT'2012) to be held in Dunhuang Hotel, Dunhuan g, China on August 26-30, 2012 will bring together most active researchers in different branches of QIST from around the world, including many of the key scientists, to review remarkable highlights, present and discuss recent important developments and breakthroughs, and reflect on the challenges to be overcome in the future, from both foundational and technical aspects, so as to stimulate more rapid progress in this exciting field. Conference Topics Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: Quantum foundations Quantum information theory (quantum communication, quantum computation etc.) Physical implementations of quantum information processing (with photons, ions, atoms, NMR, solid-state devices, and so on) Quantum optics Cold-atom physics Condensed matter physics Invited Speakers Aspelmeyer, Markus University of Vienna Atature, Mete University of Cambridge Blatt, Rainer Universität Innsbruck Buchler, Ben The Australian National University Chen, Qijin Zhejiang University Chen, Xianhui Cheng, YuanChung University of Science and Technology of China National Taiwan University Demler, Eugene Harvard University Du, JiangFeng University of Science and Technology of China Duan, Luming University of Michigan Feng, Donglai Fudan University Fleischhauere, Michael Universität Kaiserslautern Guido, Pupillo Universität Innsbruck Hammerer, Klemens Leibniz Universität Hannover Hofling, Sven Universität Würzburg Itzler, Mark Jochim, Selim Princeton Lightwave, Inc. Dunhuang Situated near the common boundary of Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang, the historical city Dunhuang is a renowned tourist destination famous for the Mogao Caves. Dunhuang, long ago referred to as 'Sha Zhou' (beautiful desert oasis), was the hub of middle and eastern silk routes in ancient times. For more information about this attractive city, please visit https://www.dunhuangtour.com/en/index.html Venue Conference venue:Dunhuang Hotel,No. 151, Middle Yangguan Road, Dunhuang, Gansu Province Tel:0937-8859128 Fax: 0937-8822309, 8822195 Hotel Website:www.dunhuanghotel.com Transportation Two ways to get to Dunhuang: By plane Dunhuang Airport is 13km east of the city. It has direct flights from Lanzhou, Xi'an, Beijing, Shanghai, Urumqi and other cities, although there are not many flights each week. By train Dunhuang City has had its own railway station now. Meanwhile, you can also arrive in Dunhuang through getting down Liuyuan Train Station 130km to the north for its rail traffic; all that required is catching a bus from Liuyuan to Dunhuang. Daily, about 20 trains stop at the Liuyuan Station and connect Liuyuan (and Dunhuang) with Shanghai, Beijing West Station, Xi'an, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Urumqi and many other destinations can be reached from Liuyuan. Transportation to the Conference Venue: If you arrive at Dunhuang Airport. Taxi fees to the hotel: about 30 RMB (about 5 USD) If you arrive at Dunhuang Railway Station.
