My music teacher.

His name is Wu Lide. He was my music teacher when I was in primary school. Before he came to our school, none of the teachers can sing well. Our school is a rural one, it is still faraway from the town. I still remember Mr. Wu was very young, with white and smooth face, and he looked very handsome. But, I remember he did not have much mustache. At that time, he just graduated from a teacher's school. His voice was really very nice, for a countryside boy who has never listened to a radio or TV, he was the best singer in our area. He often wore a yellow-green coat and a cap of the same color. In the late 1970s, this was regarded the best color for a man. I remember that at every Thursday afternoon, all the students of our school gathered in one classroom to learn songs from Mr. Wu. That classroom was not large enough, so when all the students came in, it was a little crowded. It is Mr. Wu, who taught us to clapp our hands according to the rythme of the songs. He even printed many papers with lyrics and music scores and distributed them to students. There were Do, Re, Me... in these papers. It is the first time of nearly all of them to see such scores. For me, it was the first time to smell the printing ink. I remember he borrowed the printing machine from the village headquater beside our school, and asked old students to help him print these papers. We all sang very loudly after Mr. Wu, with our small hands clapping hard. It was really the happiest time for all the students in our school. Old students sat near the back wall of the classroom, where some broken doors were leaned against the wall. So, the old students knocked the doors, making a very big noise, while other students clapped hands. There was alway smile in the face of Mr. Wu, he did not became angry to the noise the old students made, but, if it were other teacher, they would. So, every Thursday afternoon was a festival for our primary school. I folded these papers, after going home, I shown them to my young sitster and brother, and also taught these songs to them. Perhaps, Mr. Wu was a star in our village at that time, I was too young to realize this. But I still remember something about it. I think, Mr. Wu must be 19 or 20 at that time. My aunt is a relative of Mr. Wu. She, or somebody else wanted to be a matchmaker for Mr. Wu. Because one of our neighbors had a daughter named Lin, who was just of Mr. Wu's age. Lin graduated from high school and failed to go to a university. Lin and Mr. Wu met, I think, several times. But later they failed to become a couple. My aunt later said, Lin complained that Wu was a poor primary school teacher, and so on. Perhaps to our folks, only Lin could match Mr. Wu. Lin was also tall, and learned, because she always stayed in school, she looked whiter than other girls who worked in the fields all the day. Later, perhaps one year after his arriving, Mr. Wu left our school, he was assigned to another school. I don't know whether his leaving has something to do with his failed courting with Lin. After he left, Fushan, another man taught us music. I have to say his singing was too poor. And he chose some songs which were very difficult for us, and none of us liked these songs. It was really a difficult time for us to learm singing from Fushan. I don't know when Mr. Wu left. Of course there was no farewell. For a teacher who went to teach in another school, he only came and took his things away before the new semester began. Mr. Wu taught us songs like Nan Ni Wan, Meimei Zhao Ge Leihua Liu and so on. At present, I still like these two songs very much. I still remember that Mr. WU told us that Meimei Zhao Ge Leihua Liu was a song of the film Black Triangle. Mr. Wu's home was about 5 km to my home at that time. I have never met him, and do not get any information about him after his leaving. Just now, I am listening to Nan Ni Wan, I thought of Mr. Wu again. I hope he is still energic and still has a nice voice. If possible, when I get my hometown again, I will go to visit him and tell what he was like in the eyes of a boy of about 10 years old 30 years ago. |

your story reminds me of one of my teacher in my primary school~ maybe my story happened 10 year later than your story~ I come from a rural area, and we don't have special music teacher in primary school.But one year, a beautiful teacher came to our school. She was a practice teacher, she was good at music, although she was a Chinese teacher, she also taught us many songs,such as jiu yue jiu de jiu、xin yuan yang hu die meng~  Maybe she was the first one who I fell in love with~ but she only stayed with us for three months~ I have no idea where she is now, just give my best wishes to her~  [ Last edited by fungixx on 2012-5-24 at 19:55 ] |

When i was in primary school, my music teacher was a beautiful woman who was easy-going and was so kind to us. It was her that taught me to play the recorder. She directed us to join the art performance every year. And I still remembered she loved singing 'The Red Lantern', a modern opera. I don't have seen her for many years. |
