Job description The department of Physical Geography of the Faculty of Geosciences is offering 2 four-year PhD positions. Project description The PhD projects are part of the NWO-funded project “The Dark Age of the Lowlands in an interdisciplinary light: people, landscape and climate in the Netherlands between AD 300 and 1000” that involves three parallel PhD projects. The overall project focuses on the relationship between settlement dynamics, land use, infrastructure, demography and trade between AD 300 and 1000 and changes of landscape and climate, focusing on the Lowlands’ geomorphologically most sensitive regions. The reconstruction of this exciting period will take place within three complementary PhD-projects, in the realms of archaeology (occupation patterns and land use), physical geography (natural geomorphologic landscape dynamics), and biogeology (vegetation and climate changes).
