Curiosity continues scooping at Rocknest this week.
好奇號本周繼續(xù)在Rocknest鏟行。

The Mastcam and Navcam instruments provided images and video used to assess the success of the scooping and sample processing activities. These images also provided confirmation that the sampling system was successfully cleaned after the process was completed.
Mastcam和Navcam儀器所提供的圖像和視頻畫面被用來評估掘鏟的成功和樣本處理的活動。同時這些圖像也確認了采樣系統(tǒng)在處理完成之后已被成功清空。

Also this week, a soil sample was dropped off to the rovers observation tray for assessment by the science team. This sample was determined to be suitable for drop off to the CheMin instrument.
也是在這周，一件土壤樣本被傾倒在探測車觀察托盤，用于科學團隊的評定。這件樣本被判定適合于放置進CheMin儀器。

The CheMin instrument uses X-rays in order to image the sample and determine what minerals make it up. This helps geologists understand how the rock formed and how it’s related to other rocks we’ve studied so far on Mars.
這臺CheMin儀器使用X射線成像樣本，并確定它是由哪些礦物質組成。這可以幫助地質學家了解這塊巖石是如何形成，以及它是如何與迄今為止在火星上已經(jīng)研究了的其它巖石相關聯(lián)。

Scientists identified numerous bright grains in the soil. Because of this small piece of plastic from the landing event that had been found earlier in the week, the team proceeded cautiously, dumping the second scoop collected and imaging the bright grains.
科學家辨認出了土壤中數(shù)目眾多的明亮顆粒。因為在本周早些時候發(fā)現(xiàn)了著陸事件造成的小片塑料，團隊成員小心翼翼傾卸第二鏟收集物，并對明亮的顆粒物成像。

These bright grains were later determined to be components of the Martian soil, and therefore, the sample was deemed to be suitable for delivery to the CheMin instrument for analysis.
這些明亮的顆粒物，最后被確認是火星土壤的組分，因此，樣本被認為適合于交付到CheMin儀器進行分析。

The science team requested Mastcam and Navcam mosaics of outcrops in the direction of Glenelg, to plan Curiosity's journey to this next science destination.
在去往Glenelg的路上，科學家們在好奇號Mastcam（全景攝像機）和Navcam（導航攝像機）上獲取了裸露巖石的拼接全景圖像（此句翻譯不太確定，請教討論），以規(guī)劃好奇號下一個科學目標目的地的旅程。

謝謝路版提供信息，進一步查了資料。

一般生活中原本像你所查到的MasterCAM（注意和原文提到的MastCAM不同）是CNC Software, Inc. 的數(shù)控加工（computer numerical controlled (CNC)）軟件，
而NavCam是MosaicMill Ltd的飛行器導航和相機控制軟件。

但是實際上在Mars Science Laboratory的Curiosity Rover計劃里，
1. "The Mast Camera, or Mastcam for short, will take color images and color video footage of the Martian terrain.
The images can be stitched together to create panoramas of the landscape around the rover. "




2. Two Pairs of Engineering Navigation Cameras (Navcams):

Mounted on the mast ( the rover "neck and head" ), these black-and-white cameras use visible light to gather panoramic, three-dimensional (3D) imagery.
The navigation camera unit is a stereo pair of cameras, each with a 45-degree field of view that will support ground navigation planning by scientists and engineers.
They work in cooperation with the hazard avoidance cameras by providing a complementary view of the terrain.




3. Science instruments are state-of-the-art tools for acquiring information about
the geology, atmosphere, environmental conditions, and potential biosignatures on Mars.
