DOE already has three hubs in other places working on generating fuels from sunlight, modeling of nuclear reactors, and increasing the energy efficiency of buildings. A fifth hub on relatively scarce “critical materials” has yet to be sited. 美國(guó)能源部宣布，Argonne國(guó)家實(shí)驗(yàn)室將會(huì)在未來5年內(nèi)收到一筆1.2億美元的資助，創(chuàng)建一個(gè)致力于電池和能源存儲(chǔ)研究的科學(xué)“中心”。能源部（DOE）已經(jīng)在其它地方建立了三個(gè)中心，分別研究光致燃料，核反應(yīng)堆建模和提高建筑物能源利用效率。目前還沒有確定研究相對(duì)稀有“關(guān)鍵材料”的第四個(gè)中心要部署在什么地方。 The brainchild of Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, the hubs are supposed to recreate the more focused, yet free-wheeling culture with which Bells Labs and the Manhattan Project addressed specific scientific challenges.
