International Conference on Geomorphometry 2013 Date: 16-20 October 2013 Nanjing, China First Announcement and Call for Papers Geomorphometry is the science of quantitative land-surface analysis (also known as the science of DIGITAL TERRAIN MODELLING AND ANALYSIS). It draws upon mathematical, statistical, and image-processing techniques to quantify the shape of earth's topography at various spatial scales. The focus of geomorphometry is calculation of surface-form measures (land-surface parameters) and features (objects), which may be used to improve the mapping and modeling of landforms, soils, vegetation, land use, natural hazards, and other information. With today's rapid growth in sources for mass-produced surface heights (digital elevation models, or DEMs), such as the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission and laser ranging (LiDAR) technology, geomorphometric methods are becoming increasingly attractive to many disciplines. The operational focus of geomorphometry is the extraction of land-surface parameters and objects from digital elevation models (DEMs). In the simplest terms, geomorphometry is everything you can extract from DEMs! In last six years, 3 times of conference have been successfully held, brought people in the field of terrain analysis together and provided a platform for more active and fruitful communication and exchange of ideas. The aim of Geomorphometry 2013 is to create a platform for better communications and scholarly exchange among researchers in the fields of terrain analysis, geomorphometry, environmental modeling and geographical information sciences. It is the intention of the conference organizer to allow sufficient discussion and exchange of ideas during the conference sessions, so that the conference will be run in the single session format with sufficient time for each paper presentation and follow-up discussion. Conference Language: English Themes include but not limited: 1. Creation of DEM, such as LiDAR DEM, bathymetry DEM, Aster G-DEM etc. 2. Terrain attributes and objects extraction & mapping. 3. Scaling effect and uncertainty quantification analysis in terrain analysis. 4. Terrain visualization. 5. High performance computation and big data in terrain analysis. 6. Terrain analysis for land-cover modeling, hydrological modeling, soil-landscape modeling, environment modeling and other landform modeling 7. Other fundamental issues of geomorphometry Keynote Speakers We will invite four keynote speakers who are well known in the fields. Call for Papers You are cordially invited to submit extended abstract to the conference. The extended abstract should be written in English with 1000-1500 English words(not more than 4 pages) and should include the title, author name(s), author affiliation, contact information (postal address, phone numbers and e-mail address) and 3-5 keywords. The abstract will be reviewed by no less than two referees. The author of accepted abstracts will be invited to present in the conference and included in the conference proceedings. The extended abstract should be submitted to the conference secretariat electronically via e-mail (Geomorphometry2013@njnu.edu.cn) using Microsoft Word or plan text format. Key Dates •Extended abstracts due: 15th, March 2013 •Abstracts Review :From 15th, March 2013 to 15th, April 2013 •Notification of acceptance: 15th, April 2013 •Final camera-ready digital manuscripts due: 31, July 2013 •Early registration deadline:1st, June 2013 •Late registration deadline: at the conference (+$90 additional fee) •Conference date: October 16-20th, 2013 (Wednesday to Sunday) Conference secretariat: Prof. LIU Xuejun Conference secretary School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University No.1 Wenyuan road, Nanjing, 210023, P.R. Co-Chair of Organising Committee: Prof. TANG Guoan, Nanjing Normal University, China Prof. ZHOU Qiming, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Chair of Scientific Committee: Prof. ZHU Axin, Nanjing Normal University, China About Nanjing: Lies on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is one of the most delightful of Chinese cities. About 1 hour railway away from Shanghai, Nanjing is known as the capital city of six dynasties in China's history, with a brilliant cultural heritage. Like most major cities in China, modern Nanjing has experienced rapid development, with great dramatic changes over the last two decades. Modern highways, railways and international airport connect the city with most major cities throughout the country and world, and it becomes a sparkling metropolis akin to Shanghai and Beijing with skyscrapers, luxury hotels, fashion shopping malls, supermarkets and colorful nightlife throughout the city. Transport in the city is very convenient with the new metro service in addition to taxis, public buses, tourist special lines and other means of transport. Modern amenities in luxury hotels will make your trip comfortable and dazzling shopping malls and department stores will present you a rich and unforgettable shopping experience.
