The Minamata Convention—named for a Japanese city where mercury poisoning injured or killed thousands of people— mandates the phase-out of mercury in some batteries, fluorescent lamps, cosmetics, and medical devices by 2020. 持續(xù)整晚的會(huì)議過后,來自140個(gè)國家的代表在1月19號(hào)就限制汞污染達(dá)成了一致,歷史4年的談判終于達(dá)到了終點(diǎn)!端畟R共約》—以發(fā)生致使數(shù)千人傷亡汞中毒事故的日本水俁市命名—要求在2020年之前逐步停止使用含汞電池,日光燈,化妝品和醫(yī)療器械。 It sets limits on mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants, waste incineration, and cement factories. Countries with small-scale gold mining must devise strategies to reduce or eliminate mercury use. The treaty allows the use of mercury as a vaccine preservative. 《水俁共約》還規(guī)定了火力發(fā)電廠,垃圾焚燒廠和水泥廠的汞排放上限。某些運(yùn)行小規(guī)模金礦的國家還必須制定出相應(yīng)的規(guī)劃來減少或者取締汞的使用。該公約允許把汞用作疫苗防腐劑。 The Zero Mercury Working Group called the treaty a step forward but said controls on the two largest sources of pollution—coal-fired power plants and small-scale gold mining—were disappointingly weak.
