Delta and Jagged proteins are single-pass transmembrane ligands with extended extracellular domains and small intracellular domains. Five ligands in mammals act on four Notch receptors. The Notch receptors are single-pass transmembrane proteins that are proteolytically cleaved upon ligand binding. The cytoplasmic portion of the receptor then directly transduces a signal from the cell surface to the nucleus, and thus regulates expression of target genes.

三角洲狀和鋸齒狀的蛋白質(zhì)是帶有延伸到細(xì)胞外的部分和小的細(xì)胞內(nèi)的部分的單向跨膜配體。哺乳動(dòng)物的五個(gè)配體對(duì)四個(gè)切跡受體起作用。這些切跡受體是單向的跨膜蛋白質(zhì)，通過(guò)蛋白質(zhì)分解作用分解配體結(jié)合。接下來(lái)受體的細(xì)胞質(zhì)部分由細(xì)胞表面到細(xì)胞核直接轉(zhuǎn)導(dǎo)信號(hào)，從而調(diào)節(jié)靶基因的表達(dá)。
