Postdoctoral, Ph. D and master student openings in Nanorobotics, Nanodevices for biophysics and chemistry sensing Applications are invited for appointments as postdoctoral fellows, Ph. D, or Master students to join the group of Smart Nano-bio-devices for Biology and Chemistry at Max-Planck-Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) in Stuttgart, Germany: http://www.is.mpg.de/sanchez We seek candidates with strong experimental skills in one of the following areas: 1. Chemistry and/or nanofabrication, preferably with experience in cleanroom, thin film engineering, etc. 2. Biochemistry, preferably with experience in surface chemistry, biosensing, and electrochemistry, etc. Excellent written English and oral communication skills are required. Applicants should contact Dr. Sanchez by email with a CV, a statement of interest, and contact information of potential references. Qualified candidates will be interviewed over the phone, skype or, when possible, in person. ABOUT MPI-IS: The Max-Planck Society focuses on excellence in basic research, with more than 30 Nobel Prizes awarded to their scientists, and is generally regarded as the foremost research organization in Germany and the World. The Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) is located in the heart of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. In the early days of the MPI-IS, its main research areas were physical metallurgy and metal physics. In the 70s, new areas like engineering ceramics, intermetallics and composites were added. During the last decade, the MPI-IS once again shifted its research focus to include new materials like organics, soft matter, liquids and biomaterials and by implementing new analytical techniques and synthesis concepts. With the new building completed in 2002, the Institute is now fully established on the Max Planck Campus Stuttgart, being in close interaction with the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, as well as University of Stuttgart and the Fraunhofer campus which are close by. About Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Sanchez graduate with a PhD of Chemisty in 2008. He studied and developed new composite materials for the construction of electrochemical biosensors based on soft polymers, carbon nanotubes, and metallic nanoparticles. After one year as assistant professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he joined the famous International Center for Young Scientist (ICYS) project at the prestige National Institute for Materials Science, Japan, in February 2009 on a tenure track. In May 2010 he joined the Institute for Integrative Nanoscience at the IFW Dresden where he was leading a group working on nanobiochemical applications of nanomembranes. In 2013 he joined MPI-IS in Stuttgart as an Independent project leader. Dr. Sanchez has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals with high impacts, including JACS, Advanced Materials, Angwandte Chemie, Nano Letter, Advanced functional Materials, Small, etc., among them, many are highlighted as cover page papers. He is also involved in review services for journals like JACS, Advanced materials, Nano letter, etc. He has won the prestige ERC funding from EU with 1.5 million EUROs for 5 years and two DFG funding from German Federal Government with 600,000 EUROs for 3 years.
