(HZDR) is a research centre with more than 1,000 employees and is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF). The scientific key aspects are in the field of matter, energy and health. The research is performed in eight scientific institutes that cooperate inside the HGF as well as the universities, extra-faculty institutes and the industry. Focus of research at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology is the development of innovative technologies to increase energy and resource efficiency in the utilization of primary (e.g. ores) und secondary (anthropogenic) raw materials. The Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f) in minerals processing beginning 01.01.2014 for a period of two years. The salary is according to German Public Service classification (TV鯠-B). The position comprises the process simulation of solid processes for the resource technology of primary and secondary resources. By means of established process simulation tools (e.g. HSC of Outotec, SolidSim) solid material processes are to be simulated, based on geometallurgic (multidimensional, i.e. granulometric and material component) data. The existing models of unit operations (comminution, classification, separation) are to be critically assessed. With self-devised experiments, new physical/ empirical models are to be developed, or existing models for microprocesses, instruments and unit operations are to be expanded. Especially the fundamental idea of geometallurgy in the field of process engineering should be implemented and established. The basis for process modeling should be a detailed geometallurgical understanding of material flows, i.e. information of the (mineral) composition and the localization of the valuable substances, e.g. based on the findings obtained with the MLA (mineral liberation analysis, automatic composition analysis). Requirements: PhD in the field of process engineering (mineral processing) relevant experience in process simulation and process modeling relevant experience in the design of experiments for targeted modeling of unit operations Tasks: Goal is that the holder of the position works closely with the other departments of the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology, especially with the Department of Modeling and the Department of Analytics covering the value chain of primary and secondary resources.
