Postdoctoral position in supramolecular organic chemistry (University of Padova, Italy)

A 2-year postdoctoral position in the group of Organic Synthesis and Materials (http://www.chimica.unipd.it/lab205) at the Department of Chemical Science of the
University of Padova (Italy) is available in the area of supramolecular organic chemistry and soft matter under the supervision of Dr. Miriam Mba Bl??zquez.

The University of Padova was founded in 1222 and nowadays hosts approximately 65000 students. It is ranked among the best universities in Italy. Padova is a university city with a vibrant life. Its central position makes it perfect for reaching Venice, the Dolomites and Lake Garda. The Department of Chemical Sciences offers you an international and multidisciplinary environment. We have a large range of facilities from typical organic chemistry characterization (liquid and solid state NMR, HPLC, ESIMS, maldi-TOFF,??) to materials characterization (AFM, TGA, DSC, etc??).

You will join a successful multi-disciplinary team and will play an active role in this environment, adapting to changing work patterns and needs. Your research will deal mainly with the exploration, development and characterization of innovative supramolecular materials with optoelectronic properties based on carbon nanostructures and organic chromophores. You will synthesized suitable organic molecules able to drive the solubilization and self-assembly of optically active chromophores, fullerenes and nanotubes. You will modify the carbon nanostructures with these molecules and then characterize the resulting structures under different aspects: solubility, self-assembly behavior in solution, optical properties.

Eligibility: PhD or equivalent experience in Chemistry or related disciplines. A strong background in organic synthesis and a good knowledge of NMR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies are mandatory. Experience in supramolecular chemistry and materials characterization is welcome. The applicant should have self-motivation, interest for research, ability to work as part of a team and good interpersonal skills. The candidate should have good spoken and written English.

Conditions: The appointment is for 2 years. The fellowship is an ??assegno di ricerca junior?? from the University of Padova. The salary is ? 19362 per year. This fellowship is IRPF and IRAP tax free. The fellowship is subject to INPS social security contributions under the category ??gestione separata??: 1/3 is paid by the grant recipient (approx 9%).The position will be available from March 2014, but it can be delayed one month if necessary.
