【Nature communication】傳統(tǒng)鐵電體中的熱致相界 已有1人參與

http://www.nature.com/ncomms/201 ... ull/ncomms4172.html High-performance piezoelectrics are lead-based solid solutions that exhibit a so-called morphotropic phase boundary, which separates two competing phases as a function of chemical composition; as a consequence, an intermediate low-symmetry phase with a strong piezoelectric effect arises. In search for environmentally sustainable lead-free alternatives that exhibit analogous characteristics, we use a network of competing domains to create similar conditions across thermal inter-ferroelectric transitions in simple, lead-free ferroelectrics such as BaTiO3 and KNbO3. Here we report the experimental observation of thermotropic phase boundaries in these classic ferroelectrics, through direct imaging of low-symmetry intermediate phases that exhibit large enhancements in the existing nonlinear optical and piezoelectric property coefficients. Furthermore, the symmetry lowering in these phases allows for new property coefficients that exceed all the existing coefficients in both parent phases. Discovering the thermotropic nature of thermal phase transitions in simple ferroelectrics thus presents unique opportunities for the design of ‘green’ high-performance materials. 在高性能含鉛的壓電材料中,具有低對(duì)稱度的準(zhǔn)同型相界存在于相互競(jìng)爭(zhēng)兩相中間,并且具有很強(qiáng)的壓電效應(yīng)。在尋找環(huán)境友好型不含鉛壓電材料的過(guò)程中,一些不含鉛的鐵電體也表現(xiàn)出了類似的性質(zhì)。在 BaTiO3 and KNbO3中發(fā)現(xiàn)了熱致相界,這些相界表現(xiàn)出了很好的非線性光學(xué)和壓電效應(yīng)。 在傳統(tǒng)的鐵電體中發(fā)現(xiàn)并研究這種熱致相變的本質(zhì)將會(huì)提供一條尋找和設(shè)計(jì)新的具有環(huán)境友好性質(zhì)的高性能材料的途徑。 |
