Joint PhD Studentship Applications are invited for a fully-funded 4-year PhD studentship, leading to the award of a PhD with the opportunity to study both in the UK and in Singapore. The aim of the joint PhD project is to investigate the hybrid plasma-catalysis technology for the conversion of carbon containing compounds (e.g. CH4, CO2) into value-added fuels and chemicals such as hydrogen and methanol in an energy efficient and sustainable way. This project is part of a 4-year dual PhD programme between the University of Liverpool (UoL, http://www.liv.ac.uk/electrical-engineering-and-electronics/) in the UK and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the leading Research Institute in Singapore (http://www.a-star.edu.sg/). The successful candidate will spend 2 years in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool, and 2 years at A*STAR, within the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES). For the 2 years spent at UoL, funding is available to cover the home or international tuition fee, depending on the student’s residency status, as well as a stipend of up to £15,000 per annum. For the period spent at A*STAR, the student will be supported by the A*STAR Research Attachment Program (ARAP), subject to its terms and conditions. The ARAP scheme provides a monthly stipend of up to S$2,500, medical insurance, a one-time settling- in allowance of S$1,000, and one-time airfare grant of S$1,500. A degree (First or Upper Second 2.1, prefer a Master’s degree) in Plasma Physics, Catalysis, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, is required. It is intended that the post will begin on 1st October 2014.
