Macquarie University 兩個(gè)全額博士獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金位置歡迎大家來(lái)申請(qǐng)。 Two full-time Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships (MQRES) are available in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences for suitably qualified prospective PhD candidates to work with Dr Andrew Piggott on his ARC Future Fellowship project (FT130100142). Project Description: Multidrug-resistant bacteria have become increasingly prevalent in the community in recent years and are now one of the most significant threats to human health. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new antibiotics with novel modes of action to combat these deadly superbugs and to address the emergence of new infectious diseases. In this project, the successful applicants will develop innovative new chemical proteomics techniques to rapidly identify and characterise the cellular targets and modes of action of both newly discovered and historic antibiotic natural products. In addition to accelerating the development of next-generation antibiotics, knowledge of the cellular targets and modes of action of natural product antibiotics may lead to the discovery of new biochemical pathways and cellular processes, allowing function to be assigned to previously unknown (orphaned) receptors and advancing knowledge in fundamental systems biology. This exciting multidisciplinary project offers research opportunities spanning chemical proteomics, biodiscovery, natural products chemistry, organic synthesis, molecular biology and chemical biology. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading Australian and International researchers in antibiotic discovery across academia and industry. Applications are welcome from both domestic and international candidates. Applicants must have a strong track record in organic chemistry and/or molecular biology at the Masters level. The successful applicants must commence before 14 December 2014. The 2014 MQRES full-time stipend rate is $25,392 pa tax exempt for 3 years. Prospective PhD applicants should have completed the equivalent of Macquarie University’s Master of Research (MRes) degree, MPhil or other 2 year Masters degree with a major research component with excellent results. To be eligible for a PhD scholarship applicants are expected to have a record of excellent academic performance, especially in the research Masters degree, and additional relevant research experience and/or peer-reviewed research activity, awards and/or prizes in line with the University’s scholarship rating guidelines. Applicants will need to complete a candidature/scholarship application form and arrange for two academic referee reports to be submitted to the Higher Degree Research Office.
