We may identify that the alumina peak of hot face is relatively low, but the levels of spinel and CA6 peak are high in comparison with the interface.
The differences in formation of spinel and CA6 may bring about mechanical stress between hot face and interface, producing structural spalling.
Additionally, the excessive formation of CA6 in the matrix may cause microcracks4), which frequently results in spalling. Therefore, the ASM (C), in
which the microsilica was increased by 0.7% of microsilica was used to repress the expansion of spinel and CA6.
Fig. 7 shows the photos of hot face that had been applied to steel ladle after 100 heats.
