Postdoc researcher – Synthetic polymer chemist Florida State University Location: Tallahassee, FL A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available in the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department at Florida State University (FSU). The project focuses on the development of new adhesives using bio-inspired chemistry and new multi-functional smart polymers based on renewable sources. Ancillary projects include the development of highly controllable polymerizations, catalyst recycling systems, and new materials produced from novel organometallic catalysts. The most important part of the project is organic synthesis of new monomers and following polymerization. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Polymer Science or a related field, and demonstrated experience in organic/polymer chemistry (monomer synthesis and polymerization), polymer physics, and in polymer characterization (SEC, NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, tensile testing, rheology, etc.). Familiarity with physical property characterization of polymers, organometallic chemistry, and air-free Schlenk technique is desirable. Independence, creativity, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. In particular, we are looking for someone who has experience in controlled radical polymerization (ATRP and RAFT) and ROMP. FSU has excellent research facilities for polymers/materials/chemistry research. Also Chung’s group provides the maximum support to facilitate postdoc’s research in terms of publication and knowledge gaining. FSU is located in Tallahassee that is a capital city of Florida State. Tallahassee has beautiful nature, and living expenses is fairly cheap compare to many other cities in US. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable based on reasonable progress.
