In order to study the mechanism of adhesion and invasion of Salmonella typhimurium to HeLa cell, Salmonella typhimurium SL1344 and Δcrp Mutant strains were tested. Experimental results show that for the adhesion tests, the adhesion rate for strain SL1344 was 0.155% and for strain SL1344 Δcrp was 0.12%, the difference was significant (P < 0.05). For the invasive tests, strain SL1344 showed an invasion rate of 0.1%, and SL1344 Δcrp had an invasion rate of 0.08%, the difference between both rates were significant (P < 0.05). Overall, compared with the parent strain of SL1344, the Δcrp strain shows reduced adhesion and invasion rates to HeLa cells, indicating that SL1344 Δcrp strain had a weakened pathogenicity. The results may lay the foundation for the development of safe and effective vaccine for Salmonella typhimurium as well as new vaccine vectors .
