Doctoral Student in Thermal Management of Energy-Efficient Data Centers Department: Mechanical Engineering Institution: Villanova University, Villanova, PA Application Deadline: November 1, 2015 Position Start Date: January 1, 2016 (Spring 2016 semester) 美國國家自然科學基金資助 信息工業(yè)-高等教育 合作項目  The Center for Energy-Smart Electronic Systems, a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC), works in partnership with government, industry and academia to develop systematic methodologies for efficiently operating electronic systems, including data centers, by controlling resources and managing workloads to achieve optimal energy consumption. This center includes collaboration between four universities (Villanova University, Binghamton University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Texas at Arlington) and dozens of leading IT industrial firms including IBM, Verizon, Comcast, and Facebook. Members of ES2 meet regularly to discuss the 13 current projects focused on reducing data center energy consumption. The requirement for the position is a Masters of Science (MS) degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university. A thesis-based MS degree in the thermal sciences is preferred. The following characteristics are highly desired for the position: 1. Experience in technical communication, including journal articles, conference papers, and conference presentations. 2. Experience in advanced engineering mathematics, including aspects of advanced calculus, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations. 3. Experience in MATLAB programming. 4. Experience in engineering modeling and simulation. 5. A strong interest in engineering sustainability.
