單位:Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London 項(xiàng)目簡介: The post holder will be a member of the blood-based biomarker group working on discovery and characterisation of a plasma-based biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease. The biomarker group has performed numerous discovery-based proteomic studies with different study designs such as caseversus control, progression and pathology markers and have identified a number of key protein targets. The biomarker group has access to well-characterised sample cohorts to enable further development of discovery projects. The aim of the project will be to investigate a novel biological marker of Alzheimer’s disease. We have recently identified a plasma protein that has been implicated in both the brain’s response to stress, and a pathway known to play a role in b-amyloid aggregation – the wnt-planar cell polarity pathway. We intend to replicate our initial results in plasma samples from different clinical and non-clinical populations to examine whether levels of this protein differ by disease state, and whether this protein is associated with other biological and psychological indicators of Alzheimer’s disease. We will additionally investigate the comparability of peripheral protein levels with markers in central nervous system, and will examine whether a novel intervention alters its expression. The role will also involve participation in other ongoing studies of the group. The project will be jointly supervised by Dr Natalie Marchant, Dr Richard Killick and Dr Abdul Hye at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. Dr Hye will provide primary supervision. Applicants must be highly motivated to carry out basic research and hold a relevant undergraduate degree (Biology/Neuroscience or equivalent) with a good background in protein biochemistry.
