The Meguellati group is a very competitive group willing to develop and upgrade Science to its highest Level. Our group is working on the borderline of Chemistry and Biology. Professor Kamel Meguellati did his PhD under the co-supervision of Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn and Nobel Laureate Martin Karplus followed by a postdoctorate with Professor Kyriacos Costa Nicolaou. His background covers the highest level in total synthesis, methodologies and functionalizations, supramolecular chemistry, computational chemistry, quantum chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, and biology. Strong to his very high-level background, Prof. Meguellati is willing to provide new outlines and perspectives for Scientists in the realm of Chemical Biology, total synthesis, macrocyclic chemistry, foldamers chemistry, Molecular biology, and Supramolecular Chemistry. Research Areas of Interests: Project 1: C-H activation of biomolecules: This field is a burgeoning area so we need to find and discover new methodologies to expand the scaffold diversity of biomolecules and via this diversity-oriented synthesis and biology-oriented synthesis generate new compounds Project 2: The first structural sequencing of RNA and DNA secondary structures Project 3: The first self-replicating program but we should design, as we won’t use processive enzyme, self-replicating constrained double strand with low melting temperature able to self-replicate Project 4: Design of macrocycles and foldamers and discovery of their biological application via different manners (photoaffinity labeling group, mass-spectrometry fingerprinting, AFM) Project 5: Design of the first multi-switchable synthetic enzyme with multiple tasks and able to catalyze different chemical reactions depending of the stimuli The Meguellati group has impressive facilities including 2 laboratories: - One for Chemistry/Molecular Biology: Fluorescence microplate reader, rotavapors, fluorometer, HPLC, freezers, nanodrop, PCR thermocycler and different machines in common facilities, - One dedicated to Biology: In vitro studies, development of artificial cells, protocells, artificial cells, intro vitro evolution, cell-based assays, and evolutionary biology. - Current group strength: 2 postdocs + 2 local graduate students + 1 Lab Manager. We are looking for highly motivated, reliable, precise and enthusiastic exchange students, PhD, Master, and postdocs in chemical biology willing to work and expand Science to the highest level.
