Bathinda, India Sikhs protest: Indian authorities have called in the army and declared a state of emergency in Punjab state after the desecration of a Sikh holy book prompted violent protests. Hundreds of people poured into the streets after a copy of the holy Guru Granth Sahib at a Sikh temple was found ripped up, its pages strewn around, two weeks ago. Police opened fire on the protesters, who they said were throwing rocks, and killed two people, sparking more protests. Since then seven more desecrations have been reported, and authorities said a “foreign hand,” likely meaning Pakistan, was behind the provocation. Sikhs, who follow a monotheistic religion that arose in the 15th century, account for 2 percent of India’s 1.2 billion people. ================= 當(dāng)年要是把紅寶書損毀，也是天大的事啊。 |
