[2016-07-22]Nanostructured Functional Materials for Promoted Electrocatalysis

International Journal of Electrochemistry Special Issue on Nanostructured Functional Materials for Promoted Electrocatalysis Call for Papers The depletion of fossil fuels accompanied by environmental contamination has stimulated the development of alternative advanced technologies for sustainable energy conversion and storage, such as metal-air batteries, fuel cells and water electrolysis. The core of these technologies enormously depends on a series of electrochemical reactions, including oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), wherein the kinetics of these four significant electrochemical processes has a considerable impact on the output performance of the aforementioned clean energy-related devices as a whole. In this regard, the rational design of electrocatalysts which demonstrate high activity and strong durability is greatly promising. A broad spectrum of advanced techniques involving nanotechnology and synthetic chemistry have been exploited. Remarkably, nanostructures can be introduced with numerous advantages such as large surface areas, high active-site concentration and improved mass/electron transport. Therefore, we invite investigators to contribute original research articles and review articles on nanostructured functional materials for enhanced electrocatalysis. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: • Electrocatalysts composed of noble-metal-based or earth-abundant elements with diverse nanostructures for electrochemical catalysis. • Latest technologies for nanostructuring and measuring. • Theoretical results on the basis of computer simulations. • Review articles on recent advances of aforementioned topics.
