California Open School (COS) is an educational management company that oversees a number of charter school systems in the state of California. COS manages over 30 remote learning center locations throughout southern California that are connected in single virtual information sharing network. The IT department as a business unit evolved from the secondary to the primary role of electronic communication,curriculum delivery, electronic security, remote system access, identity protection, and business optimization. COS already created a framework for solid information technology and secured system improvement funding. It is important to mention that all funding comes from the state education budget and the company must follow strict funding guidelines and complete detailed audits every year.Educational service providers must understand that such processes can be based on right or wrong assumptions. Technology is repeatedly used as an instrument of inter social communications, delivering education to remote students. Beck and Hillmar (1986) simplified the entire decision process and recommend using a more granular scale instead of unpopular yes/no decision matrix. Managers struggle to represent the decision as a sum of factors rather than an easy cause-effect relationship. One important element that needs to be introduced is the non-profit properties of education and the element of measuring the effectiveness of such business. |
