| Other reasons organizations were using client server technology included computing cost reduction and organizational downsizing. Davidson (2001) continued that point of view by demonstrating in his research that centralizing data on servers promises to return to IS departments some of the control previously lost, with a resulting improvement in data security and data integrity. Client-server technology, discussed in the mid 1990s, introduced the concept of creating central data repositories that can be accessed by any authorized user. Such forward thinking allowed integrating administrative school management with early initiatives in school management. When discussing school management, number of practitioners pointed out that separation between strictly academic side and school administrative side was created only to demonstrate various relationships between IT and its users (Davidson, 2001; Lewis, 2006; Plass & Salisbury, 2002; Rada, 2001; Seng, 2003). What was often used as the largest single barrier to the adoption of IT was not perceived cost of implementation, but the requirement to train all involved parties. The technology suffered early from a lack of generally accepted standards and the availability of commercial products. |
